Samuel was known to have sons, Nelson and William, and a daughter Betsey. There were other children whose names are unknown. It is not know which marriage produced which children. According to the early census records 1820-1830 there is a possibility that Samuel had 3 sons and 4 daughters if all the children listed belonged to Samuel. It is also a possibility that they were children of his first wife. Betsey is listed as 58 on the 1850 Census and known to have had a child named Betsey. No information on William or Betsey has been found.

Nelson is listed as 29 with wife Polly 29 on the 1850 census. Nelson and Polly were known to have children: Alvers; William Alfred; Hulda; Sylvenus; Jefferson; and Albert; On the 1860 census, Polly has remarried Samuel McFaine 49, Polly is 39, Ch. of Nelson living with them are Alfred; Hulda; Jefferson 3; Allen 5; 2 mo. old Sylvenus is not listed.

City Marshal Younglove Dead

Veteran Peace Officer Had Long and Honorable Career as Soldier and Pioneer Citizen.

William A. Younglove, city marshal, and street commissioner of Bad Axe, Died at his home in the East End late Saturday evening after a lingering illness of several months. Last fall he was stricken with pneumonia and never recovered his strength. Heart failure followed, resulting as above noted.

Deceased was nearly 74-years old and his long active and varied life was ever an honor and credit to himself, and his family and his associates, and particularly in the service of his country as a volunteer soldier and in his capacity as a public official.

He was born in Steuben county N. Y., May 29, 1841. In 61 he enlisted in Co. H, 86th N. Y. Volunteer Infantry. After serving two year he reenlisted for three years more, during the war. He served till the last battle was fought and was honorably discharged July 14, 1865. In the autumn of that year he was married at Wellsville, N. Y. to Sarah A. Lloyd and a year later located in Grant township, thus becoming one of Huron county's early pioneers. Of this union eight children survive: William of Ohio, Charles of Gagetown, Mrs. W. C. Stevens and Mrs. A. Deno of Detroit, Lucy, Frank, Edwin and Lyman of Bad Axe.

In 1888 Mr. Younglove came with his family to Bad Axe where has since been their home. Mrs. Younglove survives with the children above named. For the past 14 years Mr. Younglove has served the village and city of Bad Axe as a peace officer, receiving the appointment from successive administrations of all shades of politics, marked evidence of his efficiency, faithfulness to duty and the strictest integrity in handling public trusts. "Dad" Younglove was a real man, irreproachable in character and the whole city mourns and will miss him. Funeral services were held by Rev. Rooney at noon Wednesday in the Baptist Church, of which deceased had been an active member for nearly 20 years and in the midst of many floral tributes. The services were in charge of the L. O. L. lodge of which 75 members attended in a body; also the members of the common council and city officials besides a host of friends and neighbors. Interment in Colfax cemetery.

Mrs. Sarah Younglove


Mrs. Sarah A. Younglove passed away at her home January 13, at 12:15 a. m. at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 26 days. Deceased was born Feb 21, 1846 in York state. On Oct 8, 1865 she was united in marriage to William A. Younglove at Wellsville N. Y. He was having passed away nine years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Younglove came to Michigan shortly after their marriage and took up their residence on a farm in Grant township. When the first school district was organized in the township, Mrs. Younglove was chosen teacher and held the position for three years.

Mrs. Younglove is survived by eight children: Will, of Bad Axe Charles, of Brown City: Frank, of Uby: Lucy and Edwin at home Ethel, wife of W. C. Stevens: Rose, wife of Arthur Deno and Lyman, of Detroit. Very impressive funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. Drury Martin Monday afternoon at 2. Interment in Colfax cemetery. Mrs. Mary Lloyd, Mrs. Ross Brown, of Caro, Mr. and Mrs. William Lloyd and son Billie, of Detroit, attended the services.
