"Earl Younglove, 64, UW All-American
Military funeral services for Earl Younglove 64, former University of Washington All-American football
player and Navy flier, will be at 4 p.m. today at Mount Baker Presbyterian Church, 3201 Hunter Place S.
Mr. Younglove, who lived in Seattle, died last Thursday. He was born in Peoria, IL., and received his
bachelor of arts degree from the UW, where he was a three-year letterman, playing end. He was named an
All-American player in 1941.
During World War II, he was a Navy flier and flight instructor based in Seattle area. He worked with
the William O. McKay Ford dealership following the war. He was called back to active service during
the Vietnam War, and retired from the Navy in 1967.
In his years of Navy service, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross; three Air Medals: Bronze
Stars, including two for Vietnam duty; a Navy Unit Commendation; Naval Reserve Medal; American Campaign
Medal; Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. His Navy duties included
work as an air traffic controller and a flight instructor.
At the UW, he was a member of the Fir Tree and Oval Clubs as well as Delta Chi fraternity and the Big W Club.
Mr. Younglove was active in the Seattle Art Museum. He also was the author of several magazine articles on
his hobby, fly fishing, and invented several flies. He was a member of the Washington Fly Fishing Club and
Ducks Unlimited.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; children, Edward Earl Younglove III of Olympia, Stacy Lynch of Hana,
Maui, Hawaii and Sloan Armstrong Younglove Jr. of Seattle; A brother, three sisters and four grandchildren.
Burial will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu. Remembrances are suggested to
the Seattle Art Museum, Medic 1 or a favorite charity."
